Translation Agency Motte is a long standing business, and during all those years we accumulated a lot of dictionaries.

The picture doesn’t show everything we ever had, because the Van Dale’s are often replaced by younger versions, and then we try to get rid of the older ones. They’re still useful for most people.

The picture also doesn’t show our electronic dictionaries, online dictionaries and of course the databases we have compiled ourselves during all those years.

VERKLARING

“Afschaffen” betekent er definitief een eind aan maken of definitief met iets stoppen. Een treinverbinding die maar één keer niet plaatsvindt, wordt niet afgeschaft. In dat geval kun je wel zeggen dat de trein “vervalt”, dat men hem “laat vervallen”, of dat hij “is vervallen”.

Taalmodel: vacaturestop

VERKLARING

“Aanwerving” is natuurlijk afgeleid van “aanwerven”, en daar begint het probleem.

“Aanwerven” wordt gebruikt voor rekrutreren of ronselen van bijvoorbeeld krijgsvolk of zeelieden, of om leden te werven voor een partij of vereniging. Het kan ook algemeen “in dienst nemen” betekenen, maar dat is al een afgeleide betekenis.

Maar toch is dat niet het echte probleem. Het zelfstandig naamwoord “aanwerving” is gewoon geen correct Nederlands. Daardoor is ook “aanwervingsstop” geen correct Nederlands. Wel goed is “vacaturestop”.
